Description

GLENDALE–The Armenian Genocide 95th Anniversary Commemoration Committee released a statement Friday calling on Armenian Americans in California to make a pilgrimage to the Armenian Genocide monument in Montebello on April 24. The committee also reported that transportation to the memorial will be available this year and said it would make the relevant information available in the coming days. We present the statement below. The First Genocide of the 20th Century, which was inhumanely premeditated, perpetrated and carried out by Turkey 95 years ago, still remains unpunished. Today, more than ever, the Armenian people are determined to demand justice and fight for their rights from Turkey. Recent political developments, especially as they relate to the opening of the Armenia-Turkey border and protocols, are nothing more than an effort by Turkey Political developments of recent months, especially what refers to the Armenia-Turkey border opening and the Protocols, are nothing more than an effort by Turkey to veil the real truth—the Genocide. Today, the Armenian nation is facing difficult challenges. Our people are under tremendous pressure in the process of normalizing Armenia-Turkey relations and resolving the Artsakh conflict. At this critical juncture, especially given recent developments, the Armenian people will band together as one and remind the whole world that Turkey On these days and especially with recent developments, our people will come together as one and remind the whole world that Turkey is accountable to us and must return our lands and make restitutions for the victims of the Genocide. The Armenian people will never stop fighting for their rights. Thus, we appeal to each and every Armenian in Southern California to participate in the upcoming event on April 24, and make the pilgrimage at 1:30pm to the Armenian Genocide Memorial Monument in Montebello and show the world our determination to demand justice. On that day representatives of all community organizations and religious denominations will come together for a political gathering which will be followed by a memorial service. During the political portion of the event community leaders as well as local, state and federal officials will address this gathering. As a token of our respect, we also appeal to our people to place flowers at the Genocide Memorial Monument. The Montebello Genocide Monument is located at: Bicknell Park, 900 Via San Clemente, Montebello California.
